Door knocker with backplate

Central Europe, 16th century

Malleable iron bar ring knocker incised on the sides and set with a ring in the form of a canine head. On each side, two smooth bars are mortised and forge-welded to the ring. Collared backplate filled with ornamental foliage. Square bar ring mount. Decorated with grooving.
